Intel buys Ascending Technologies

The technology giant shows it's serious about drones

January 4, 2016

Intel announced today it will acquire Ascending Technologies, a German drone company specializing in auto-pilot software and algorithms. Though still subject to customary closing conditions, this agreement shows Intel understands the enormous opportunities involving UAVs.

The company previously combined Ascending Technologies’ sense-and-avoid algorithms with Intel RealSense technology’s real-time depth-sensing capability. This technology helps drones avoid obstacles and collisions, ultimately improving drone safety.

Intel is positioning itself to be a part of technology that will make drones smarter and more connected.

Brian Krzanich, CEO of Intel, will deliver the CES pre-show keynote address Tuesday, Jan. 5. He will speak more about this acquisition and how Intel technology is changing how people experience daily life.
